Music Video
Finance: Need to think about the sources of finance and also how much money you are going to produce at the release of the music video. Need to think about the covering cost for the transport, equipment, crew, facility hire, clearances and legal costs. Also think about the sources of finance such as sponsorships, subscription fees, cover price and sales.
Time: Timescale is very important. Need to think about the availability of the crew and equipment and also when the final deadline is so you when the video has to be produced by. Maybe think of the schedule to give to the crew so we are organised so that we can meet the deadline and we all know what we are doing.
Personnel: Need to make sure that the people in your group have a certain amount of skills to be able to aid well with the production of the music video and also make sure that they fit into the timescale of your production. Also that the crew you are working with is the right size for the job and that you are not short of people needed for the production of the video.
Facilities: May need equipment and studios to hire out to be able to film the video, but think about the timescale and when your are going to need them. Plan what facilities you want to use and then when you are going to use them.
Materials: The production need to be raw materials and then you can develop them in the final cut of the production. Also tests shot may be taken to figure out the lighting and background of certain scenes so you can get the perfect shots, angles and backgrounds for the video production in the final cut.
Locations: Need to check out the locations of the filming and also that you have permissions to be on the location and also any health and safety issues are addressed. Also you will need permissions from other people if they are going to be included in the video during a certain scene. Make sure the work place is suitable for the video.
Copyright: If you want to use any other images or footage from other people you will need legal permissions to use this image or footage in your production. intellectual property rights.
Codes of practice and regulation: What is going to be produce it needs to be suitable for the audience you are putting it out to and make sure that if it is offensive to people. Be careful with what content goes into the production.

Definitions:
1) Special effects:
Kanye west - stronger
The music video uses a lot of different effects to make it visually pleasing. It appears that the the video uses a green screen at the start to show the thing Kanye was in. There are also some filters and flash lighting effects throughout the video.
2) Multi-mage:

This music video uses the technique of cutting to a beat which is where the scene in the video changes on to the beat of the music. It adds a good flow to the video and makes people wanna dance more to the music.

- Lyric interpretation: Lyric interpretation is where the music video is used to tell the audience a story about the music video and the lyrics in the song. This can be used to make the audience understand what the song is about and the music video.
- Extending or consolidating song's meaning: It means to have other meanings to the song rather than just one meaning and also to show the two different meanings in the music video. This can show the viewer that the song is not about one thing but actually about many or more than 1 thing. This adds an extra meaning for the viewer to try and understand.
- Focus on performer: Focusing on the performer means it the camera will film more of the performer than any other person or thing in the music video. This can show the viewer more of how the performer is feeling in the music video as they can see them more in the video they can see the body language to see their emotion.
- Lighting for mood: This is when the lights for the shot are dimmed or brightened or even changed in colour to create an atmosphere. This can make the viewer understand more on the feeling of the performer and the meaning of the actual song itself.
- Allusion: This is when the song or video references something indirectly that makes the viewer want to know what it is. This makes the viewer curious and also it engages them to watch more of the music video so they can find out what it is.
Part B:

This image shows multi-mage which shows different images on the screen in one scene. There is a fair bit of this used in the music video which adds good effect to the video and makes it flow well.

This music video uses the technique of cutting to a beat which is where the scene in the video changes on to the beat of the music. It adds a good flow to the video and makes people wanna dance more to the music.
4) Lip syncing and miming:
Shakira - hips don't lie
This music video uses lip sync, you can see this in the video as you can make out that she is not actually signing and they word are a little bit out of sync. This allows for pure recording of the video and then singing in two different parts to be added later.
5) Animation:
This music video was one of the first ever to use animation in a music video. This added a whole new technique in the music and video industry. This adds a interesting effect that makes viewers want to watch the music video and grabs their attention.
6) Reference to other artist or includes another artist:
This music video has a collaboration with another artist. The main artist of the song is Juicy J and the feature is Kanye West and they worked together in this song and music video.
Task c)
1) Illustrative:
It shows illustrative techniques as the video crates a dark mood and can make the viewer feel a bit uneasy with the content in the video.
2) Interpretive:
This music video is a good example of interpretive music as you cannot really tell what its about and people will have mixed ideas on what the video and song is about. It maybe be about a women who is trapped in a bad relationship and it feels like being in prison. It can make the viewers think and wonder.
3) Surrealist:
This is an example of surrealistic music video. It is surreal as its something that you can't believe as its strange or unnatural because the video uses real life images alongside animated images which is out of the ordinary and also advanced for the time the song was released in.
4) Pastiche/Homage:
This is a tribute song to Paul Walker from the "Fast and Furious" movie franchise. It is a tribute song as its in memory of him as he passed away before the final release of the latest movie "Fast and Furious 7". The viewer can instantly know that if they know about the franchise and or they are a big fan of it. Otherwise the video can show the viewer that its a tribute because of the extended meaning to the song the video brings.
5) As-Live:
This music video a is a simple example of live music video. This is because the clips in the video are all taken from Jon Bellions latest tour "The Human Condition" based of the album he released just before. It shows him at his concerts doing his performance with the band on his tour of his album.
6) Parody:
The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey - "closer" parody
This music video is a clear representation of parody as its a parody of closer but changed lyrics and different people playing the characters in the video.
7) Animation:
This video is a good example of animation as the video is all cartoon animation type clips which is different to your normal music video.

Styles, conventions and techniques of music video's
The use of:- Colour

Music 2: Gangster style for the artists and the video has some bright colours and the cars have different colours being blue, cream etc. Set at the beach as well as driving on the road. Darker colours but the lighting was just right. Image of girls in cars and gangsters running the streets. Lower class working class people and ages of around mid twenties.
Music 3: Dark colours and is pretty dim. Set in some sort of farm house. The choreography was showing the band and them shaking their heads.
In concert and "As live" footage is one style of music video.
Animation is the second style of music video.
Illustrative/Interpretive:
- An illustrative music video is one which will use the literal lyrics as a basis for the visual. The visuals and the lyrics will have a strong bond.
- Whereas an interpretive music video encourages the audience of the song, by using narrative which i snot lifted literally from the lyrics, and the bind between the two will not be immediately obvious.
Pastiche & Homage: Pastiche or homage is where one media, references another in an affectionate way like a tribute.
Parody: Parody is where one media text imitates another, The key difference is that parody will do it mockingly.

Assignment 1 - Purpose of music videos
Music videos, there are so many of them all with different types of scenes in them that suit the song that it is for. The video can be there to promote the artist or the song or the album the song is in, music videos have many purposes. A music video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. One main purpose of the music video is to give the audience something to look at while they listen to the song and maybe even dance to if there are dance moves in the video.
The promotion of a song can be seen anywhere on TV on an advert or on the radio etc, one main way of doing this is by putting the song on a well know brand advert on TV.
Conrad Sewell - Taste the feeling - coca cola advert 2016
The song was used in the coca cola advert and maybe made for the company (coca cola), this music video can make people want to drink coke and also listen to the song that the artist has produced. This became the theme song for the coca cola adverts in 2016. Coca cola may have asked Conrad Sewell to make the song which then through the advert he can promote the song and also promote himself as an artist.
Jon bellion - all time low
The song is used to promote his album and also his tour. The way he does that is the song is in the new album ("The Human Condition") and the video shows some of his tour which can encourage fans to purchases the album or go to his concerts. The video shows his fan and concerts that he has performed on his new album and this is promoting it as people watching can see the amount of fans that he has and maybe other may want to listen to him and purchase the new album. It can bring the artist and company revenue for the sale of the album and using this video to promote it shows that a lot of people love his music so they will buy the album. Before the album was released the art that are on the songs music which were posted ons social media to also make people aware of the new album and the tour.
The shirt in this screen shot was sold before the album released and also before the tour. People who got them were prepared for the album and really looking forward to the tour.
Desiigner - Panda
Desiigner is a new artist who has released "Panda" in 2016 which grew in popularity very very fast within only a few weeks. This promoted him as a new artist as not many people were familiar with him before the release of "panda" including myself. The song brought a lot of popularity towards him and that there fore promoted him as an artist which brought fame and fortune to him. The song has over 1 million likes on youtube and over 140 million views.

This movie can be seen with a lot of synergy from multiple artists including wiz khalifa, X Ambassadors and Logic. All very well known artists.

This song is one of the most popular song that was created for suicide squad and rolls in the credit. It promotes synergy as it shows sets from the movie in the music video and also there are many different artists working together on this song. It promotes synergy and also the artists and also the film company that produced the movie.
This is the cage they used in the movie to hold one of the characters in the prison scenes and this is being used in the music video.
This is a scene from purple Lamborghini with the artists Skrillex and Rick Ross with Jared Letto (the Joker) which promotes synergy as they are filming a music video about the movie with one of the cast.
The promotion of this synergy will bring more revenue to the artists involved in the songs and also the movie company as more people will want to the movie because of the songs and also the collaboration with the movie company and the artists.

Kanye West started his own record label in 2004 with a name called "G.O.O.D.Music." This is Kanye West's own record label. There are other artists who have joined this record label such as, Big Sean, Teyana Taylor and Kacy Hill. This bring Kanye a good amount of revenue as he has his own label and also the people that have signed to this label are very well know and so are their song which brings Kanye a good amount of revenue from his own songs and also others. The record label is also in conjunction with Sony BMG which can also bring Kanye more revenue and he can also from that build even more popularity and also develop his own record label company to benefit him and also the other artists that are involved in his record label. If he develops the label more artists may want to sign with his company and he will get even more revenue.

French Montana and Drake - No shopping
This music video promotes the two artists range of media that they are in or associated with. It is promoting the media that the artists are in because at the at the start of the video they are acting a scene with its own lines that introduce the song is a comedic way. During the song there are other scenes that they have also filmed which can be seen and cut to.
The first scene where they introduce the artists in their acting scene.
Drake and French Montana can be seen acting with fake facial hair parts and also they are talking about the song like they are working on a music show that is showing songs from a countdown list.
This is also in the opening scene where Drake and French Montana's names have been slightly altered to fit the theme of the acting scenes int he music video. People will want to watch the acting scenes before they music actually starts as Drake and French Montana are very well known artists and so fan will be interested in watching them and especially Drake as he had a previous acting career before he became a rap artist. This can bring the song more revenue and attention and also the artists more fame and revenue from the extra acting part theta they did in the video.

What is the purpose of the video:
The purpose of the video is to maybe show that there is police brutality towards anyone no matter what skin colour or gender you are. To show issues in American society and the problems with the law.
What makes it controversial:
It makes it controversial because as there are a lot of different people in the video but mainly using gingers as a target in the video. Showing that maybe America is full of violence. That can cause controversy as people may agree with that and others may say that people who are getting beaten by the police and bad people and that they should deserve to be beaten.
Why:
It is because people may say that police are not brutal but giving out justice to stop bad people no matter who they are.
What was the outcome:

lesson 2
Lesson 2 15/09/16
Video 1: One camera angle that covers the whole band. Simple long shot. Film colour is black and white from the time of this video. No effects or other camera angle or any filming technique's.
Video 2: More camera movement close up panning shots filming some of the band and singers in the video. Side shot of the lead singer. Colour still black and white and no effects. Some different camera angles, the most common angles is a side shot of the main singer.
Video 3: mostly focusing on the singer but the angle is following the singer and there are some close up shots but the camera is front facing only not many side shots. Colour of the film is still black and white. Final shot is a long shot getting the whole scene.
Video 4: One camera angle low shot looking from the ground up. No shot of the actual singer but the lyrics are being filmed by the camera and the person who is holding it. Starts with a zooming out to show the person holding the lyrics to the song. The cards the person is holding up are not al the lyrics but some main words of the song. No other camera angles are present.
Video 5: There are lot of panning shots and shots that follow the band members and also the film is in colour with a range of shots. More filming techniques used. There was some low shots looking from the ground up.
Video 6: The film is colour and there is a lot of fading shots and camera angles where its moving to each band member. There are many shots where it is a close up or zooming in into a close up. Shots from behind. Also the type of music is different and there a lot of effects for the video and also voice effects to.
Video 7: Video is still in colour not amazing quality. Some side shots and low shots following the people in the video.
Video 8: Video still in colour with bright colours and lots of freeze shots which switch to new scene. New style of music and zooming shots with close ups. There is some tilt shots where the camera is tilted at an angle.
Video 9: Camera has a different lens on and there are a lot of follow shots and shots where the whole band is in it.
